ARSRC President condemns students demonstration at Konongo Odumasi SHS as he calls for speedy resolution

The President of the Ashanti Regional Students Representative Council Odartey Samuel Lamptey of OKESS has expressed his disappointent about the student’s unrest and agitation at Konongo ODUMASI SHS that has resulted in the indefinite closure of the school.

The Board of Governers of the school took the painful decision to close down  the school following agitations by a section of the student body who are demanding the transfer of the Headmistress of the school.

Speaking to our Editorial team, Master Samuel Odartey Lamptey lamented the action of the students when theere are various avenues through the SRC structure designed to seek redress for students. He stated that such actions undermine the effort of the students representative council at ensuring that students are given a fair hearing in any issue bothering them. He continued that the motto of the SRC which is emancipation of students through dialogue and a philosophy of non-violence should guide all students in the region to adopt dialogue in seeking redress on any militating issue.

He recounted efforts by the regional council to resolve the issue affecting students and how such agitations affect their efforts.

He indicated the council embarked on orientation exercise to all member schools to educate them on the channels of communication and how to seek redress using the structures of the council.  He was very disappointed that the efforts of the Regional  Coordinator at helping to find a solution to the issues at KOSS has been dealt a big blow with this line of action by the students.

He called on the Regional Directorate of education to resolve the issue once and for all for resumption of academic work.

It will be recalled that a section of students of KOSS two nights ago embarked on a peaceful demonstration to demand for the removal of the Headmistress of the school following the transfer of 10 teachers by the Ghana Education Service.
