The swift intervention of the Rapid Response Unit of the Ghana Police averted who could have been a bloody clash between students of Osei Tutu and Kumasi Technical Institute just outside the stadium last Thursday. Osei Tutu were at the stadium to support their team against Adu Gyamfi SHS in the 1/16th stage of the competition but failed to progress after losing on penalties to Adu Gyamfi SHS.
The game was the last match of the day but events after the game was very regrettable as some students of KTI amassed in front of the stadium waiting to confront Osei Tutu students. The students of OT who had the information of what awaited them also amassed in numbers and marched towards the main gate to battle KTI.
The clash would have been a bloody one as some of the students had various gadgets as weapons ready for battle but officials of the competition were swift in notifying the Rapid Response Unit of the Ghana Police who quickly responded with a team of well equipped police officers who prevented the possible clash by separating the two schools.
It is unclear what triggered the clash but our checks reveal that KTI were responding to some insinuations hurled at them by OT students inside the stadium.
The Ashanti Regional Students Representative Council has condemned the clashes and called on the Authorities of the school as well as the student leaders to settle the differences between the two schools.
In a related development, there was another clash between some students of Osei Tutu and Prempeh College at Sofoline near the Fuel station at Suntreso Hospital.
Some Prempeh students had a confrontation with OT students who were outnumbered by the Students of the Sofoline based school. But for the intervention of the fuel attendants at the station and some onlookers the end result could have been catastrophic.
It as unclear what triggered the attacks but should authorities fail to address the undertones of these attacks, there might be reprisal responses.
The Ashanti Regional Students Representative Council condemns these attacks and will be initiatiating a dialogue among the schools to ensure that these clashes are nipped in the bud.
