Mfantseman Girls Senior High School has officially not been invited to the tenth anniversary edition of the Sprite Ball Championship as the all female school does not feature among the list of teams officially listed by the Ghana Education Service (G.E.S.).
In a letter addressed to Regional Physical Education Coordinators of all six regions with participating teams and signed by GES Director General Dr. Jacob Kor, Mfantseman was not part of the schools invited to compete in the girls division.
The latest happening further dents the two time bronze medalist’s chances of making the tournament after failing to qualify due to a misunderstanding regarding the status of reigning Girls Champions Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion School.
After learning the side wouldn’t play in Accra because Aggrey does not hold an automatic spot for the upcoming competition, the team’s captain fainted as members of the team and student body broke down in tears.
Frantic calls have been made to get Aggrey an automatic spot to get Mfantseman Central Region’s other slot for the Championship. Aggrey and Wesley Girls High School will represent Central Region in the girls division.
Sprite Ball is Ghana’s most prestigious high school basketball tournament and will take place between December 28 and December 30.
