KNUST shoots down flying OWASS in preparation for Spriteball Championship

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)’s Men’s Basketball Team has beaten Opoku Ware School (OWASS) 49-40 in an expected win for the tertiary side in a friendly game played at the former’s court.

The game played yesterday was in preparation for OWASS ahead of the Sprite Ball Championship which takes place between December 28 and December 30 at El Wak Stadium in Accra and will have 26 schools compete in boys and girls divisions.

This was OWASS’ second test ahead of the tournament after playing a mini tournament against Kumasi Anglican Senior High School (KASS) and Prempeh College. All three schools will represent the Ashanti Region in the Championship.

Beating KASS 18-17 in the opening game, OWASS led 18-4 against Prempeh before the game was postponed due to poor visibility. Losing to KNUST-2016 UPAC Basketball Championship bronze medalist proves the side is on the right track to arrive in Ghana’s capital in shape.

Opoku Ware is a two time bronze medal winner after placing third in 2014 and 2015 editions. It lost out on another bronze medal after falling to Pope John Senior High School 19-26 in January this year.
