A total of 289,207 students across the country are writing this year’s ongoing West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The number represent the total potential candidates that will compete for admission into tertiary institutions in Ghana with many education watchers worried about the limited vacancies in the various tertiary institutions in Ghana.
The students are drawn from 916 schools.
Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on toured some examination centers in the Greater Accra region to get first-hand information about candidates writing the examination.
His visit was to also encourage the students to do their best and not to resort to examination malpractices as that would lead to their papers being cancelled.
He first visited PRESEC, Legon, where 925 students are writing this year’s examination. He then made stopovers at the Achimota Secondary School and the Accra Girls Senior High School.
