Day 2 Full Report; Owass, KASS, Adgass, Asass, Armed Forces, others through

Six round of 32 matches were honoured today at the Baba Yara Stadium in the ongoing Inter-school soccer competition of the Ashanti Region.

Some surprising and expected results came through as schools battled for a place in the last 16.

Here are updates of Day 2 matches;

Match 1: St. Hubert 2:1 Dwamena Akenten

St. Hubert Seminary surprised Dwamena Akenten SHS today in the first match of the day. DASS felt too confident prior to the match but found the going too difficult as the Seminarians played to a rehearsed pattern though lacking in talent to win by 2:1.

Match 2: KASS1:0 Al-Azhariya

This was a dingdong affair as the two teams neutralized each other in a very entertaining game. The two teams tested each other’s pulse but failed to find the net. But as the game proceeded, defending Champions, KASS became  more confident and purposeful in their approach. A well worked out goal from Emmanuel Frimpong capped an afternoon of not so good a performance from Kumasi Anglican SHS. A minute silence was observed for the departed Headmistress of KASS before the match.

Match 3: OWASS 2:0 Effisco

Arguably one of the mostentertaining matches for the day Effisco played very well in the first half but succumbed to two second half goals from Opoku Ware School who were very good in the second half. OWASS played to a rehearsed pattern with their long searching balls which found their pacy wingers. Effisco did all they could but had no antidote to the OWASS second half play.

Match 4: Armed Forces SHTS 1:1 Juaben ( 4:3 on penalties for Juaben SHS)

A very entertaining football from some nimble footed players of Armed Forces SHTS added excitement to the game. Juaben equalized after a very decent Armed Forces side took an early lead. Juaben managed to win on penalties after the 1:1 drawn game in regulation time.

Match 5: Asanteman SHS 1:0 Japass

Asanteman SHS played a good game to surprise favourites Jachie Pramso SHS. JAPASS were confident ahead of the match and started the game slowly before warming themselves into the game but Asanteman had a strategy to contain them and wait for their opportunity to capitalize on any blunder. One of such moves paid off as Asanteman took the lead and managed to defend it till the game ended.

Match 6: Adu Gyamfi SHS 0:0 Obuasi SecTech (5:4 on penalties for Adu Gyamfi SHS)

Arguably the most anticipated match of the day, two former Champions battled each other in a very tensed match. A very tactical game by all standards saw the two sides neutralized the threat of their attacks restricting the match to midfield play. Occasionally the two sides dominated each other creating some openings with Adu Gyamfi hitting the upright in the 2nd half.

The game ended goalless with Adu Gyamfi SHS winning 5:4 on penalties after seven kicks in a very dramatic fashion.

Some scenes from Day two.
