Former president John Dramani Mahama has cleared the air on a false publication that suggested a future NDC government will reverse the free Senior High School (SHS) policy initiated by the current NPP government.
According to Mr Mahama the newspaper publication is “laughable”.
“The false publication by a newspaper that the NDC will reverse free SHS is most laughable, false and diversionary. “Free SHS is constitutional, it must be implemented, but it must be implemented properly according to a clear plan that carries all stakeholders along,” he posted on Facebook. Following reportage by a newspaper which was also carried by a number of media houses in Ghana, that the NDC will reverse the free SHS policy.
The former president took to his Facebook page to explain that the current “disagreement over the programme is about the optimal pace of implementation”. “This view is not mine only. Many in the NPP and non-partisan civil society hold the same opinion. It is not too late to hold a national stakeholders forum on the Free SHS Programme in order to carry the whole nation along,” Mr Mahama said. He also added that the current “legacy-seeking” implementation will only fail and create problems in future.
