Adu Gyamfi SHS posted a 1:0 win over Konongo Odumasi SHS in their round of 16 fixture after KOSS won a protest against Kwasi Oppong SHS.
It was not a very convincing performance from the defending Champions but Adu Gyamfi did enough to hold on for a quarter final ticket.
The first quarter final match of the saw OKESS battling perennial semi finalists Islamic SHS in a very thrilling encounter.
OKESS dictated the pace of the game in the initial stages but couldn’t manage to break down a resolute Islamic side. Islamic came into the game strongly in the latter stages of the second half but the two sides held on for a scoreless game. In the penalty shootouts, Islamic won by 4:2 to secure qualification to the semi finals.
The second semi final match of the day was another difficult encounter between T. I. Amass Kumasi and Prempeh College. It was a very scrappy game with the two sides interested in neutralizing themselves rather than imposing their game on the other. Prempeh College couldn’t not play their passing game as Amass forced them to play a very physical game with little creativity. The two teams settled for a goaless game before T. I. Amass won 4:3 on penalties to book their semi finals ticket for the seventh time in 9 years.
The 3rs Semi finals match of the day was another thrilling encounter between Obuasi SecTech and Asanteman SHS.
Asanteman were the toast of the fans with the nice inter positional play and movement. Obuasi looked matured in their play as they bid their time and gradually came in strongly. Obuasi SHTS were quite physical and gradually wore Asanteman down. Asanteman took the lead but Obuasi SecTech equalized through a well worked out free kick to the admiration of all. Asanteman won 5:4 on penalties to secure qualification to the semi finals.
The fourth quarter final match involving Opoku Ware School and Adu Gyamfi SHS was postponed to tomorrow to afford Adu Gyamfi SHS some rest after their game today.
T. I. Amass will meet Islamic SHS in the first semi final match on Friday while Asanteman takes on the winner of the OWASS/Adu Gyamfi SHS clash the same Friday.
