T. I. Amass Kumasi are through to the finals of this year’s inter schools and colleges soccer competition after beating ISLAMIC SHS by 1:0 at the Baba Yara Stadium. It was a closely contested game as the two Islamic schools matched each other in every department of the game.
The game was predominantly played in the middle as the two sides neutralized themselves.
There were few chances in the game as the two goalkeepers were virtually on a holiday. However very decent move from Amass with a with a quick finish managed to beat the amazing goalie of Islamic who seemed to dazed by the finish. Islamic tried unsuccessfully to equalise but Amass held on to the slim margin to qualify for their fourth final since 2009. Amass last won the trophy nine years ago.
In the second semi finals of the day, Opoku Ware School trashed Asanteman by 4:1 after a masterclass performance.
Owass took a 3:0 lead in the first half before Asanteman pulled a goal back deep in the second half of the game.
Owass made it 4:1 through a late penalty A highly tactical performance by Opoku Ware School marshalled by Coach Akwasi Owusu reduced Asanteman to mere passengers with no antidote to the swift counter attacking moves by Opoku Ware School which created gaps within the defence of ASASS.
The defence men of Asanteman found it difficult to deal with the pace of OWASS attack.
OWASS wasted many opportunities in the game and could have easily buried Asanteman for their defensive frailities.
OWASS last won the tournament in 1998.
T. I. Amass, Kumasi will therefore meet Opoku Ware School on Monday in the finals of the competition while Islamic SHS will take on Asanteman in the 3rd place game Monday.
