The Writers, Drama and Debaters Club (WDDC) in the Ashanti Region has been absorbed by the Ashanti Regional Students Representative Council following successful negotiations with stakeholders of the Club and subsequent acceptance and ratification by the 22nd Congress of the ARSRC.
The prolonged discussions to have the group come under the umbrella of the ARSRC finally ended with the blessing of the Patron of the WDDC and the Officer In Charge of the group with support from former members of the group and financiers.
The WDDC will now be known SRC-WDS or WDS for short. Writers and Debaters Society.
The decision was finally laid before the Constitutional Committee made up of delegates from one hundred and seventeen schools from Ashanti Region under the Chairmanship of Aboagye Bediako Jnr as students deliberated on the decision and passed governing by-laws under the framework of the ARSRC Constitution. When the by-laws were finally laid before the General House, students probed and asked questions before finally approving the takeover and by-laws through a motion filed the student leaders.
By this decision, all activities of the Writers and Debaters Society (WDS) will now be sponsored by the SRC both at the local and regional levels by the Local and Regional Councils respectively.
Congress approved three programs annually for the WDS including Debaters Prelims and Finale during Students Week same as the Literary Group. Congress also approved Debaters Day to be held at Congress as well as other partnerships with Multimedia for the High School Debate.
Per the structure, the WDS will have a Patron who will work under the Local SRC Patron while the Regional WDS Patron will work closely with the General Patron of the Regional SRC.
Congress approved a six-member executive structure for the WDS which include President, Vice President, Secretary and Assistant and Organizing Secretary and Assistant. The structure will be same for both local and regional levels.
The Council will continue to tap into the knowledge and expertise of the former leaders and members of the group at all times to ensure continuity and sustainability.
The Regional SRC office located at the Regional Education Office, Room 5 now becomes the Secretariat of the group.
The new logo and governing by-laws will be outdoored soon.
The ARSRC will now have LG, EDICOM and WDS as its subsidiaries or wings with all its activities and programs coordinated and funded by the Ashanti Regional Students Representative Council.
