PREVIEW OF THE 2019/20 ASHANTI REGIONAL INTER SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES BOY’S SOCCER COMPETITION GRAND FINAL BETWEEN KUMASI HIGH SCHOOL ‘MMERANTE3 (GENTLEMEN)’ AND ADU GYAMFI SHS ‘ADEHYE3’ BY BRIGHT YEBOAH TAYLOR OF NHYIRA FM 104.5MHZ.

THE ESTABLISHMENT OF KUMASI HIGH SCHOOL.

Kumasi High School often referred to as KUHIS, is a boys’ senior high school in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It was established in 1962, by S. K. Amoah. The students are known collectively as Mmerantee(Gentlemen).[1]

It is located in Gyinyase near Ahinsan Estate.

The motto of the school is Truth conquers.

Kumasi High School started as a private institution called Kwame Nkrumah Secondary School under the initiative of S. K. Amoah. In 1963, the School moved to Kwadaso in Kumasi from Asuoyeboa and occupied rented premises.
In 1965–66 academic year, Amoah’s school was absorbed by the government and became a public institution, with the same name as Kwame Nkrumah Secondary School. The school then moved to Kwadaso, another rented premises owned by P. K. Mensah, a contractor whose son was then a student of the school. Albert Appiah, who was then a tutor at Prempeh College, was appointed as the first Headmaster of the school. The aftermath of the 1966 military coup d’état that ousted President Nkrumah’s regime saw the school’s name being changed to the present name, Kumasi High School. The school was a mixed institution and during the 1966/67 academic year, the female students were transferred to Kumasi Girls Secondary School (KUGISS). Thus, paving the way for a boys’ school.

In 1977 it moved to occupy its permanent site at Gyinyase, a suburb of Kumasi. In the 1978/79 academic year, the school was authorized to run Sixth Form courses in Business, Arts and General Science. The school has witnessed major transformations and academic successes and is currently running the Senior High School system.

THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ADU GYAMFI SHS

Adu Gyamfi Senior High School is a coeducational second-cycle institution at Jamasi in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

The school used Presby Church as its classroom and later moved to Opanin Sekyere’s house.

Opanin Moses Sarpong, Opanin Kwabena Agyei and Madam Akua Akyere voluntarily offered their pieces of land for free.

In 1974, it was absorbed into the public school system and its name was changed to Adu Gyamfi Secondary School.

The motto of the school is “ALWAYS SEEK THE TRUTH”. The school has been successful in both academic and sports fields. The school won the Ashanti Schools and Colleges sports festival in the year 2010.

High School 0-0 Adu Gyamfi

Interestingly, Adu Gyamfi, and High School game ended in a draw and Kumasi High Sch needed a win against Agona Sec Tech in order to qualify for Super Zonals. A draw or loss meant Adu Gyamfi SHS qualifies.

With 2mins to full time, the match was still barren with pressure been
mounted on Agona Sec Tech. All of a sudden some High School Boys
(More than 20) entered the field, and through that process, the ball entered the net of Agona Sec Tech.
The Referee of the day, GK Manu awarded it as a goal and High
The school qualified ahead of Adu Gyamfi.
Nothing was done about this after a series of protests.

A year later Adu Gyamfi school invited Kumasi High School for a friendly match
and Adu Gyamfi won convincingly by 3 goals to 1. The goal scorers for Adu Gyamfi were, King Dokia,
Cashmoller and Charles.
