The preliminary selection process for the Energy Commision’Renewable Energy Challenge for the Ashanti Region came off today at the Auditorium of KTI.
Close to 25 schools took part in the competition which lasted for about 5 hours as various schools presented their Renewable Energy projects under the scrutiny of Energy Professor Francis Kemausuor of the KNUST.
Each school presented their project in a PowerPoint presentation as the judges questioned them on the rationed for the project and the innovation behind the project.
Ten schools were eventually chosen to compete in the project out of the lot.
Some schools presented their project with concrete evidence and answered the questions from the judges.
The ten qualifies schools will go into the main competition for the Ashanti Region on the 9th of July where 1 winner will represent the Ashanti Region for the national event.
Obuasi SHTS topped the other schools with their presentation backed by their project which was a rotating solar panel which moves in the direction of the sun to generate electricity.
Juaben SHS placed 2nd followed by Kumasi High School who were 3rd.
Prempeh College were 4th while Konongo Odumasi SHS placed 5th.
Gyaama Pensan SHS were 6th while Kumasi Academy were 7th.
Agona SDA were 8th while Alzariyya were 9th with the last slot Agona SHTS picked the last slot for the event.
The ten schools will now focus on developing their ideas or concept into a concrete project in line with guidelines by the Energy Commision for the project.
Opoku School, KNUST SHS, Aduman SHS all failed to qualify.
