Gyaama Pensan SHTS are through to the final leg of the ongoing Renewable Energy Challenge for Senior High Schools after securing 85 points to beat seven other Regional Champions from the northern sector of the country.
The Aboaso based school beat the Bono and Ahafo Champion Achirensua SHS who secured 77.6 points with Navrongo SHS picking the 3rd spot with 77 points.
Sunyani SHS (SUSEC) came 4th with 76.7 points while Northern Business School placed 5th with 76 points.
Nkoranza SHS placed 6th while Salaga SHS were 7th with 72.3 points with St Francis Girls placing 8th.
The Kwabre East based school who won the Ashanti Region edition will now represent the Northern sector of the country at the National Competition where their Microbial plant energy project will compete for the national honors with the winner of the southern zone.
The school were given one thousand CEDIS for the Team and Project Coordinator while an undisclosed amount will go for the preparation of the team for the national event.
The Plant Microbial Fuel Cell Technology which involves the use of soil, soil bacteria and plants to produce electricity presented by Gyaama Pensan Senior High/Technical School topped all other projects presented.
Salaga SHS Presented wind powered energy source. Navrongo presented Ethanol Powered Stove for cooking.
The competition was hosted at the splendour hotel in Kumasi for the northern zone.
The Energy Commision is partnering the Ghana Education Service with sponsorship from Bui Power Authority.
