It was established on 28th January, 1991 as one of the community day secondary school during the tenure of Mr. Harry Sawyer as part of one hundred and forty six (146) Senior Secondary Schools which were opened throughout the country under the Education Reforms Programme which was started in 1987 with the Junior Secondary School. The School started with twenty three (23) students that is 17 boys and 6 girls as pioneering students with six teachers. The current student’s population is about 2143 and can now be counted as one the great schools in the country.
Initially, only technical and vocational programmes were offered in the school until January 1995, when Business programme was introduced into the school`s curriculum. In January 1997, Secretariat and General Arts programmes were also introduced. Since 2003, the School has introduced Elective Science and General agriculture programmes in the curriculum. Consequently, the School generally offers all the programmes approved by the Ghana Education Service for the second cycle of the educational structure of Ghana.
Though the school started purely as day institution, hostel facility was introduced for an initial group of fifty (50) final year students on the 19th of September 1997 to cater for wards of service personnel and other parent who hail from outside Kumasi Metropolis. With effect from the 2006/2007 Academic year, the Ghana Education Service granted approval for the school to operate as a Boarding/ Day School. Currently the school has 30%day and 70% boarding students. The School is located within the Uaddara Barracks, the former home of 4 battalion of Infantry near Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in kumasi. The school`s motto is SERVICE WITH HUMILITY. This has been chosen from our deeply cherished belief about what it means to be an educated person. Alongside the school`s motto, the school has a slogan (MMARIMA MMA!!! EXCELLENCE). This is coined from the fact that the umbilical cord of the school is tied to the Ghana Armed Forces, the school being founded to meet the educational needs of service personnel in the Northern command of the Ghana Armed Forces. With this unique ‘precentage’ the products of the school, both current and past are considered as sons, daughters and wards aspire to be among the best in all endeavours.
